Baymaas Lake House
Baymaas Lake House

An island-lake house retreat near Kochi, Kerala

On the banks of the Vembanad Lake on the Cheppanam Island in the outer suburbs of Kochi is a beautiful lake house ideal for a quiet getaway. Baymaas Lake House is named after the owners’ mother, who loved this property. And what's not to love!

Located right on the lake shore, the property offers two pool villas and Baymaas Muri or room. The pool villas have large living spaces, comfortable wash areas and expansive sit outs that face the swimming pool. Baymaas Muri, also expansive, faces the pretty garden. All rooms offer sweeping views of the Lake. The credit for the design of the new villas and the restoration of Baymaas room goes to famous Swiss architect Karl Damschen, who is also responsible for well-known Fort Kochi landmarks like Kashi Art Café and CGH Earth’s Brunton Boatyard Hotel.

There is no restaurant or menus here, just an intimate private dining space that overlooks the Lake and serves authentic Kerala cuisine from Baymaa’s repertoire of unique home grown recipes. So expect meals to include dishes like string hoppers, Kerala-style egg curry, Kerala beef fry, karimeen and chicken roast.

The best way to enjoy this space is to do absolutely nothing and just sit back and relax in different parts of the property and watch the quiet waters of the Lake. If you are more activity-minded, then you could go on a kettuvallam or country boat ride to enjoy the sunset on the backwaters, indulge in fishing on the Lake or one of the ponds around the property where local fish is farmed, walk through paddy fields, go cycling around the village or even go sailing and kayaking at the nearby sailing club house.

Price: From Rs 15,000
