Journeys With Meaning

Kashmir, Ladakh, Meghalaya & Assam

Reconnect with the ‘other’ India—that’s what this tour operator with a difference is trying to do. It takes urban Indians on a journey to some of the most beautiful destinations in India—Kashmir, Ladakh, Meghalaya and Assam. While these places are now thronged by tourists, at least during some months of the year, Journeys With Meaning attempts to take travellers on off-the-beaten-path trips. The operator works with local communities to design tours that allow travellers to stay with locals, work with them, and most importantly, learn from them.

Journeys With Meaning partners with inspiring organisations that are creating innovative solutions that work. Food that is grown without chemicals, buildings made with natural materials and powered by the sun and wind, social entrepreneurship, transformational models of education, ethical businesses, and new economic models—these are all areas that travellers get to explore on these deeply immersive journeys. However, it is not all work and study. The tour operator promises fun and adventure with opportunities to go river rafting, mountain biking, trekking and eating delicious home cooked local meals.

Price: Depends on trip. For instance, one of their trips to Meghalaya and Assam costs about Rs. 46,150/- (+ 5% GST) per person.

The journeys focus on educating urban Indians about socially and ecologically sustainable practices. All accommodation during the trips are in local homestays. The operator ensures very little or no non-biodegradable garbage is generated and only locally grown food at locally run places are consumed. It also organises monthly workshops on sustainable practices.
